The natural tendency for many organizations is to add more processes and more steps and more structure in times of uncertainty and change. And all this complexity breeds more complexity. More complexity breeds more oversight and governance. And move oversight and governance breeds a collective lack of confidence and a wholistic loss in belief of those in the organization.
And over time, as the weight of all this complexity begins to add up, the consequence of this weight is apathy. It’s an organization that’s not dead but not alive. They can’t move. The mind is working but the body won’t move.
